Black Lotus Yoga is the latest blossom of the modern vinyasa tradition, a potent ritual of breath and movement that opens the inner channels of the body and invites the creative sap to flow. Based on old Hatha principles, Black Lotus Yoga works with the natural movements of the breath to rouse the sleeping parts of the soul, and to make space for her dormant powers to unfold. In this retreat, we explore the Black Lotus system inside and out. We learn the outer forms and sequences that comprise the Black Lotus system, together with the inner forms of breath, bandha and mudra that bring the practice alive.
Beyond the study of technique, we explore the philosophy and mythology behind the practice, drawing from traditional sources and uncovering timeless teachings while using our hearts to reimagine what modern yoga is all about. Most importantly, we practice together deeply, making space within our bodies for consciousness to breathe.
No prior experience with Black Lotus is necessary, but some familiarity with Mysore practice is recommended. Ashtanga practitioners are absolutely welcome to join. Black Lotus Yoga was born from Ashtanga, and the two practices flow beautifully side by side. Morning Mysore sessions will support both styles, and you can practice either as you wish. There is an abundance of passion in the emergence of Black Lotus Yoga, and you are invited to share in the new blossoming.
Program
This retreat involves six days of asana practice, together with a rich series of workshops lovingly designed to support your exploration of Black Lotus Yoga. The workshops will explore such subjects as postural alignment, internal breath, bandha, mudra, energetic balance, and of course, the philosophy and mythology of Hatha Yoga. Expect a careful balance of practice, somatic exploration, practical instruction and inspiring philosophy—along with ample time to wander in the high mountains and settle more deeply into the experience. Expect to leave this retreat with a wider opening in your heart, and a yoga practice that has renewed depth and potency.

About Ty
Ty Landrum is a poet, philosopher, somatic explorer and apprentice to the body. He learned yoga from pain and heartache, loss and confusion, old books and lost tapes, full moons, long bouts of silence, cold winds, simplicity, forgiveness, surrender, and the caring words of a few good friends.
Renowned for his profound explorations of traditional yogic ideas, Ty has a unique talent for bringing the philosophy of yoga alive, not only in words, but on the canvas of the breathing body. His passion as a teacher is to share the brilliance of yoga with anyone who wants to learn.
