Take this opportunity to dance, connect, and be inspired.
Forest Dance is a growing series of gatherings in Oslo where we explore movement as a way to deepen our connection with nature.
Through this retreat, professional dancer and guide Gard Lervang leads participants through a series of tasks and exercises based on various dance practices, meditation practices and forest bathing. Forest bathing is a Japanese preventive health practice focused on immersing oneself in nature, consciously and with all the senses, to promote wellbeing and presence. Every task and exercise is an invitation to connect deeper to what nature is, and to our own human relation to nature.
Forest Dancing
In Forest Dance, we use nature as a starting point for movement.
We begin by tuning our senses to listening. We let go of thoughts and start to receive information from our surroundings. For example: “How does the ground feel beneath us?”, or “How does the air feel around us?”, or “How does the light fall through the leaves?”, or “What does the forest actually sound like?”
Dancing can be used as a tool to listen and understand nature on a deeper level. Dance lets you pay attention to the intricacies and details, creates personal relationships with different parts of the forest, as well as it challenges your perspective on what nature can be.
And also important: the dance already exists inside you and nature is a tool to bring it forth. Every tree has an essence and energy it is radiating. Once you listen deeply, you allow its essence and energy to become part of your own movement nature.
The moss never worries if it’s doing it right or wrong, it simply is. In Forest Dance, we do the same: no judgment, just being fully human.
