About Lotta and Andrew

Lotta Sebzda is a 56 years old hairdresser-ashtangalover - mother of two adult children and two grandchildren.

Ever since Lotta was a child, she was mostly upside down, doing handstands, cartwheel or other gymnastic.

When she found AshtangaYoga in the late 90s it was like coming home, she says - she was immediately drawn to the practice.

Since that day it’s a big part of her life - with dedication, love, curiosity, energy and gratefulness, she follows the traditional Mysore style. It was taught by late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and now his grandson, R. Sharath Jois.

Andrew also started his AshtangaYoga-journey in the same time as Lotta. With a background as a basketball-player, he had many old injuries to deal with. Ashtanga yoga helped him to strengthen the weak and injured parts of his body, and today yoga is the only thing that keeps him strong, both in body and mind.

Yoga: Reconnecting to Life with Luke Jordan EN

Yoga: Reconnecting to Life with Luke Jordan EN

Nøsen Yoga og Fjellhotell (map)

We are born so full of life and yet conditioned by society, it's institutions and through the passage of time we can lose touch with this very life that we are.

Religious teachings and spiritual practices can sometimes reinforce this separation from ourselves with their emphasis on good and bad, right and wrong, should and shouldn't.

The intention behind this retreat is to provide relief from these structures of belief, to give space for a rediscovery of who we are and what life is.

While together we will engage in practices of yoga through movement, breathing and chanting, as we explore these we will see that the point of is not to turn us into some kind of imagined yogi, is not to make us some better version of ourselves.

Instead, we will see that, fundamentally, these teachings point us back to the gift of who we already are.

Daily Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga

Each morning classes of Ashtanga Yoga will be offered in the Mysore-style method. In this unique style of practice we work through a learned sequence of postures in the manner it was developed by Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India.

By following this method, practitioners have the opportunity to experience deeply their own embodiment by paying attention to the breath and internal sensations.

Drawing on over 20 years of experience sharing this method, Luke will offer insight into approach and alignment giving both verbal and physical assistance individually to support a deepening unfolding in the yoga experience.

Ultimately, with continued practice and attention the body's innate intelligence is awoken and guides from within.

Vedic chanting

Yoga has deep roots in the ancient wisdom traditions of India. As it has travelled to the West this connection has been somewhat weakened as the focus has moved more towards the physical performance aspect of the yoga postures.

The sages of old contemplated deeply important existential questions such as, 'who am I?' and 'what is life?'. Their answers are revealed in the ecstatic utterances of the Vedas and the Upanishads.

Through chanting these mantras we engage in their vibratory essence and have the opportunity to engage with the teachings that the ancient seers transmit to us through time immemorial. Their message is today as relevant as it ever was.

The ideas of yoga as they appear in the Yoga Sutras text come from a foundational philosophical system called Samkhya. In this session we will learn the essence of its pointers through a series of exercises developed by a modern sage, Douglas Harding, that may provide insight into the ancient inquiry of our true identity!

Patanjali's Yoga Sutras don't talk much about yoga postures! Instead they are primarily concerned with seeing through the persistant turings of the mind, leading the mind back to the quietude of its own source. In this class, after looking at what Patanjali has to say about how our mind works, we will play with practical forms of inquiry that reveal the mind and its stories leading in the process to a greater self-understanding

  • Session 3 – Walking Meditation

So often in our actions we are simply not there! The automatic conditioning of our lives robotocises us as and we miss our lives in the moment as we are busy making other plans and acting towards our goals. Along the way we forget to stop and smell the roses, to be aware of our environment, the gifts of nature as they manifest around us. Inspired by Zen practice, this walking mediation will help us experience the bounty of Nosen's natural abundance, connecting with the outside nature as we connect simultaneously with our inner nature and awareness.

  • 18.00 - 19.00 Dinner

22/06

  • 07.00-09.00 Morning Mysore practice

  • 09.00-10.00 Breakfast

  • Free time

  • 13.00-14.00 Lunch

  • Session 4 – Dynamic Moving Mediation

While our yoga practices constitute a disciplined way of getting in touch with our bodies, breath and internal sensations, sometimes we can best connect with out inner aliveness by shaking everything out and moving freely without thought, judgement or a plan as to how that movement should be. This session will provide an opportunity to do so! Through shaking off the cobwebs of discipline and giving the body an opportunity express itself freely we will then quietly observe the awoken energy and sensations.

George is an artist, author, astrologer, healer and international speaker, with a passion for raising the awareness of the collective and promoting healing and awakening through the mediums of art, astrology and sound.  George emigrated to the US from England 12 years ago, and although he has adopted America as his new home he is a true citizen of the world. He has a true love for humankind and a deep intuitive understanding of the human psyche which he approaches with his broad range of healing modalities.  George is also the author of a children’s book.

George learned astrology first with famed astrologer Monty Taylor, Jungian astrologer and the last student of Dr. Emoto, and with Frank Andrews, psychic and tarot astrologer to the stars. He quickly adopted his own multidimensional technique based on the wisdom and science of this ancient practice.   Over the years he has honed his approach and uses a combination of chart reading with intuitive insights, medical astrology as well as music and sound healing. During the course of this retreat George will give multiple illuminating talks, answer questions and lead several sound healing sessions designed to heighten individual and collective awareness and ignite deep healing and transformation.

Born in Norway but raised between the US, England, France and Norway, Ragnhild is a modern day Viking.  Seeking new horizons is in her DNA as is the saga of her adventurous ancestors.

The Conscious Breath with Ty Landrum

The Conscious Breath with Ty Landrum

Nøsen Yoga og Fjellhotell (map)

Escape the heat of high summer and retreat to the cool, enchanting land of Norway, where the rivers are cold and the sky is clear. This retreat is all about rediscovering the yogic practices of asana, pranayama, and chanting through deep, rhythmic breath. We begin with an exploration of the five prānas or "vital airs." We learn how these work together to cycle energy through the body, and how we can support this cycle with the somatic practices of yoga. More specifically, we learn how to support the internal process of Hatha Pāka, or "sudden absorption" that is so central to traditional Hatha Yoga. This is the process that gradually releases us from the clutches of conditioned thought. When we understand how the process works, we can use our yoga practices to engage the process consciously, pointedly, and with loving attention. With assiduous practice, we can begin to connect to the inherent bliss of deep, conscious breath.

Program

Our mornings begin with Mysore-style asana practice, from 7am to 10am, followed by brunch. From 12 to 2pm, we have an afternoon workshop on philosophy and technique. We leave the mid-afternoons free for exploring the breathtaking surroundings. Before the evening meal, we gather again for pranayama and chanting.

Please note that asana practices will be assisted but self-directed (not guided). Ashtanga Vinyasa will be the predominating style, but related styles are also welcome, and adaptive variations on the Ashtanga theme are fully supported.

About Ty

Ty has an unwavering love for this unique somatic discipline, which he began practicing back in 2005. Drawing on his formal background in philosophy (PhD University of Virginia), Ty has an unusual power for illuminating the internal dynamics of yoga. He sees yoga as conscious participation in archetypal patterns of human development, which he is ever drawn to explore.

Many inspiring people taught Ty about yoga, but the deepest and most lasting imprints have been made by Jennifer Eliot (his first teacher), David Garrigues (his second), Mary Taylor and Richard Freeman (his most recent), to all of whom he is forever grateful. These teachers all did something remarkable, which is to disappear and allow the spirit of yoga to stand forth from within.

Ty now shares his love of yoga in studios and retreat centers around the world. His passion is to share the brilliance of yoga with anyone who wants to learn.

About Nøsen

The center has a warm and spacious shala, with amazing views of the mountains and lake, full of natural light. Yoga and living great joys. With Vijaya Kumar and R. Alexander Medin

Yoga and living great joys. With Vijaya Kumar and R. Alexander Medin

Nøsen Yoga og Fjellhotell (map)

A workshop about friendship, love & peace of mind

This week you will get a solid introduction to all aspects of yoga. You will learn basic technique in the physical positions that ensure a safe yoga practice. You will also be introduced to classical meditation and breathing exercises that strengthen the mind and nervous system. The main focus this week is the many joys of everyday life and how the classic Indian texts relate to the many challenges everyday life presents.

It is demanding to live. It is an art to take care of the good relationships, the small moments and see the beauty of everything that is rather than burying oneself in the negative. Life is sometimes a balancing act between the small and large challenges of everyday life.

This workshop focuses on inner and outer joy. What strengthens us, enriches us and makes us a better version of ourselves. The personal responsibility we have as humans in finding inner stability, peace of mind, and a lasting joy.

Dr. Vijaya Kumar & Alexander Medin

They met at Sanskrit College in India and have been friends for over 20 years. Together they have taught yoga in many places in Asia. Vijaya Kumar wrote his dissertation on yoga therapy and runs his own www.yogagurukula.in in India.
Alexander wrote his MA thesis on yoga in the 21st century with a focus on the Krishnamacharya tradition. Together, they have more than 50 years of experience with yoga and Sanskrit.

Vijaya Kumar

Vijaya Kumar is a traditional Indian pandit. He also has a doctorate in "Yoga and Health". He studied the Vedas in a traditional way at the Sringeri Mutt. Later he studied for six years at the Sanskrit College in Mysore. Here he immersed himself in yoga and later completed a Vidvat degree in Nyaya (Indian logic) and Vedanta. As a student, he won many awards and became national champion in Sanskrit debate on the topics of Sankhya and Yoga.

After completing his studies, he moved back to his village (2010) and started a traditional Yoga Gurukulam. This place is now visited by people from all over the world who come to immerse themselves in the study of yoga and vedanta.

R. Alexander Medin

R. Alexander Medin has been teaching yoga for 28 years. He was certified by the legendary Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in 2002, a distinction only achieved by only 33 people. He has an MA in Sanskrit and Indian Religions (SOAS 2004) and has had the privilege of traveling the world teaching yoga. He is the founder of Puro Yoga, Stiftelsen Back in the Ring and Nøsen Yoga and Fjellhotell.

Alexander is a classic dandelion child. Despite a troubled upbringing, he became Norwegian champion in Breakdance (1984) and later boxing (1987) before completing a classical ballet education (1990). He later worked for five years as a dancer and musical artist before being given the privilege of teaching yoga.

Asana, breath and mantra. Workshop with John and Julia Scott

Asana, breath and mantra. Workshop with John and Julia Scott

Nøsen Yoga og Fjellhotell (map)

Join John and Julia Scott for 4-days of intensive immersion into Transcendental Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, a system and method of yoga that will introduce you to your Own Voice, Your Own Sovereignty or metaphorically your own inner Guru/Teacher.

Each morning there will be a Dynamic Movement Meditation Practice - initially presented as a Transcendental Sanskrit Counted Class progressing to Assisted Guided Self-Practice, with each class finishing with a soothing sound journey. All guests will be Held in a Container of Love and guided Into Self-Practice and Self-Knowledge by John and Julia. Venerable Dhammadipa: Meditation on the four elements: Earth, Water, Fire and Wind

Venerable Dhammadipa: Meditation on the four elements: Earth, Water, Fire and Wind

Nøsen Yoga og Fjellhotell (map)

We are honored to host once again a retreat with Ven Dhammadipa, a meditation master with more than 40 years of experience. This year he will instruct us in meditation on the four elements, which form an indispensable basis for understanding our bodies, health, and material reality. Thus, this is the basis for both Sutra and Tantra teachings

The four elements are central to the Asian understanding of reality: they are found as Tattvas in the Indian Samkhya System, Dhatus in Buddhism, and Tibeto -Chinese medicine they relate to bodily organs and meridians. The Buddha taught in several of his discourses how the material world, including our bodies, is made up of these four primary elements — earth, water, fire, and wind — and how, through meditation, one can practice mindfulness and develop the right wisdom to see reality as it is.

An antidote to Narcissistic attachment

As we tend to cling to materiality, and in particular to our physical body, many narcissistic tendencies or disturbing emotions derive from the attachment and the identification with our material form. Meditation on the elements is an antidote to our attachment to our physical bodies and attachment/aversion towards sensations.

“In this body what is hard or rough is the earth-element, what is flowing or cohesion is the water-element, what is maturing (ripening) or heat is the fire-element, what is pushing or supporting is the air-element,” and he should advert and give attention to it and review it again and again as “earth-element, water-element, fire-element, air-element,” that is
to say, as mere elements, not a being, and soulless.

Visuddhimagga

Promoting balance of mind

Through meditation, we come to understand that the reality we cling to is nothing but the elements in various combinations: the “pain” in my back, for instance, maybe a combination of tightness (earth) and a burning (fire).  Thus, these are not my “pain” but simply constituents of reality. When material elements are seen in this light, the practitioner is gradually freed from illusions and thus his/her mind is liberated so that pleasant and unpleasant stimuli do not disturb.

Thereby, one is unafflicted by pairs of opposites
Yoga sutras 2.48

The elements in Buddhist Tantra

The elements are also central to Buddhist Tantric practice in that they are connected with negative emotions like desire, attachment anger, pride, and jealousy. To transform the four negative emotions into the five kinds of wisdom, we need to understand the elements

The retreat will also include sharing the wisdom of menstrual cycle awareness and how this practice can be integrated with yoga and be a powerful sadhana in itself.

The retreat is open to women of all ages and may be of particular interest to mothers, women in peri-menopause/menopause, those wanting a deeper connection between their cycle and yoga practice, or any women seeking a retreat experience combining both Ashtanga yoga and gentle, restful practices.

About Kino

Kino MacGregor is a Miami native who is happiest on the beach with fresh coconut and a poet at heart who always stops to smell the flowers. She is the founder of Omstars—the world’s first yoga TV network. With over 1 million followers on Instagram and over 500,000 subscribers on YouTube and Facebook, Kino’s message of spiritual strength reaches people all over the world. Sought after as an expert in yoga worldwide, is an international yoga teacher, inspirational speaker, author of four books, producer of six Ashtanga Yoga DVDs, writer, vlogger, world traveler, co-founder of Miami Life Center.

Yoga for Kino is more than just a “workout”— it is a way of life founded on a firm commitment to the moral and ethical precepts of truth, non-violence, and love. Being strong in yoga is just not about a powerful handstand or a deep backbend for Kino, nor is yoga a game of extreme ableism where yogis compete with one another. Instead, Kino sees yoga as a daily ritual where people tune deeply into their spiritual center and experience the peace of the Eternal Divine. Kino believes in making the tools of traditional yoga accessible for all different sizes, shapes, ethnicities, and ages and writes a weekly Yogi Assignment blog based on her popular Yogi Assignment book. Rather than it being an exclusive club for the privileged elite, yoga is for everyone and it is the international community of yogis who are responsible for the integrity of the sacred heart of yoga.

Combining Kino’s presence, traditional Ashtanga Mysore classes, workshops, magical surroundings and lovely human beings, everything is ready to be an unforgettable experience.

During the five-day practice, you will join Mysore classes every morning, from 7 am until 10 am. One group begins at 7 am and the other one at 8 am. From 11 am to 1 pm, you can join a workshop with a different focus every day. It goes without saying that with dedication, willingness, and enthusiasm you will deepen your understanding of yoga and develop your practice during this event. In the middle of the retreat, on Tuesday, all practitioners can take a free day from their practice.
