Mindfulness step by step
Short guided exercises with rest in between, working with breath, body and attention.

With Camilla Fuglesang Eide. A winter weekend in the mountains to learn mindfulness step by step, with no experience needed.

Welcome to the mountains. What is mindfulness, really, and is it for you?
Mindfulness is training the ability to notice what happens while it happens: your breath, body, thoughts and feelings, without drifting off and without judging yourself. It is a quiet skill you practise, and it helps you step out of the autopilot that runs so many of our days.
Meditation is the umbrella over many techniques: breath, silence, mantra, being in nature and more. Mindfulness is one of them, and the easiest to bring into an ordinary day, because you can practise it while walking, eating, waiting for the train or sitting in a meeting. In short, meditation is anything you do to find calm, and mindfulness is training your attention on what is happening right now.
Mindfulness as we use it today has its roots in a programme Jon Kabat-Zinn developed in 1979, and builds on research into how attention and stress affect the body and brain. As he put it (loosely translated): "You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf."
Who is the weekend for? For you who have never tried, and for you who have tried without getting it to work. You need no experience and no prior knowledge. The weekend starts on Thursday afternoon, so you have time to land before the programme begins.
What happens? We learn mindfulness step by step, in short guided exercises with rest in between. You try breath, body and attention, and leave with a technique you can use in daily life as soon as Monday morning. It is winter, so there is also time for skiing, walks, sauna and rest.
You do not have to be silent all weekend. We talk, eat together and enjoy ourselves. Silence comes in short guided moments, and you decide how far into them you go.
Want to explore more than mindfulness? In the Meditation Compass, the method from Camilla's book, mindfulness is closest to the direction called Presence. You meet the other directions (Stillness, Focus and Nature) at Lær meditasjon, 28 to 30 May. This weekend is where you begin: learning to land.

Camilla is a yoga teacher and mother of four, and works in marketing and strategy at Norconsult. She has practised yoga since the early 2000s, but it really took off in 2010/11, when she experienced for herself how important it is to take care of yourself, to breathe, to look after your health and to be able to be in the moment. Yoga, breath, meditation and good routines got her back on her feet, and she uses these tools and techniques every day. With her calm, friendly and present nature she shares her experience and knowledge generously.
Camilla is a certified Ashtanga yoga teacher from Puro Yoga under Alexander Medin (2021/22 and 25/26), and also has a 200-hour training in Yin and Yang yoga from Yinyangakademiet. She is a certified meditation teacher with a two-year training, and a Gestalt coach from NGI.
'Yoga is my real meeting with myself, in my life, and gives me inner grounding and steadiness.'
