Jivamukti yoga

Yoga can also be about song, dance and laughter, and if you have not tried it before, you have the chance at Norges Yogafestival, which starts this Sunday and runs for a whole week at Nøsen.
"Yes, you could say Jivamukti yoga has a playfulness to it," says Karina Kibsgaard, who teaches this fairly new form of yoga, born in New York in the 1980s.
"At the same time, listening both inwards and outwards is an important part of Jivamukti yoga," she stresses. "It is about breath, movement and music, and not least about presence and care for your surroundings."
As a young woman Kibsgaard was fascinated by the form because it combined Western and Eastern traditions, and the classes played both The Beatles and Bob Marley.
"But even though Jivamukti is a fairly new form of yoga, it is based on old yoga traditions," she says.
Besides teaching at Norges Yogafestival, Karina Kibsgaard runs Lokah yoga studio in Oslo together with others.
