About the role
Nøsen Yoga og Fjellhotell is growing, and we are looking for an operations manager who wants to come with us on the next part of the journey. This is more than running a hotel. It is a chance to become a central part of a living place, and to help shape how Nøsen develops in the years ahead.
Over many years Nøsen has become a meeting place for yoga, retreats, courses, festivals and people from Norway and the rest of the world. Now we want to take new steps: run the place more professionally and improve the guest experience, while keeping what makes Nøsen special. The closeness to nature, the community, the calm, the meetings between people.
As operations manager you become one of the key people at Nøsen, with the main responsibility for daily operations. You work closely with the general manager and link reception, kitchen, housekeeping, maintenance, retreat hosts, teachers, trainees and administration. The general manager leads direction, finances, sales and strategy. Your job is to make Nøsen work well in practice, every day.
You like being where things happen: talking with people, keeping an eye on the house, solving problems and getting the different parts of the organisation to pull the same way. You also lift your eyes and ask how we can do it even better next time. We want to move from fixing yesterday's problems to building good systems, so fewer problems arise in the first place. Here you can make a real difference.
Your main responsibilities
- Daily operations of the hotel, retreats and events, from planning to delivery
- Reservations, guest flow and arrivals
- Staffing and shift planning
- Coordination between kitchen, housekeeping, reception, maintenance and the rest of the house
- Following up staff, trainees and volunteers
- Good routines, systems and ways of working
- Clear communication between people and departments
- Hosting, and looking after guests' needs
- A positive, inclusive and professional place to work
- Taking part in the community at Nøsen and planning activities for the team
You will thrive here if you
- Create structure and overview without thinking about it
- Communicate clearly, warmly and with respect
- Stay calm when a lot happens at once
- Like to take responsibility and make decisions
- Are good at getting people to work together
- Enjoy people from different countries, cultures and situations in life
- Spot problems before they grow
- Like to improve systems and ways of working
- Are not afraid to lend a hand when it is needed
- Understand that hospitality is, in the end, about how people feel while they are with us
Experience
Experience from hotels, hospitality, retreat centres, restaurants, events or other operational work is very relevant. Experience leading or coordinating staff is a clear advantage.
Experience with booking systems (PMS), ideally Mews, or with shift planning and other hotel systems is a plus, but not essential if you learn fast. You do not need to do everything yourself: you see what needs doing, who should do it, and make sure it is followed up.
The people
Nøsen is an international community, and our trainees are an important part of it. They come from many places and for many reasons: some want hospitality experience, some look for community and yoga, some are travelling, and some are between chapters in life.
The operations manager plays a key part in giving this community structure, with clear tasks, expectations and follow-up, while everyone is met with respect and feels included. That takes both warmth and clarity, and that combination matters a lot to us.
Living and working at Nøsen
Nøsen lies in the mountains of Valdres, surrounded by nature, quiet and wide landscapes, some way from city life, which is part of the point. Mountain life is not for everyone, so we especially want to hear from you if you feel real curiosity reading this.
Most of the team lives at Nøsen. Board and lodging are part of the pay. The team lives in hotel rooms or staff cabins with shared bathrooms; as operations manager you get your own private room.
