Workshop 1 - the 8 Limbs in Daily Life Ashtanga Yoga or 8-limbed yoga is an 8-part method as referenced in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Discussions on the eight limbs of ashtanga yoga and how to integrate them into your daily life.

11:30am - 1:30pm Workshop: Mantras – Connecting to the Divine through Breath & Sound
In this workshop we will explore the history and significance of chanting. Sharing correct pronunciation, its importance as well as a clear translation bringing deeper meanings behind these sacred words. The ancient practice of chanting works at a subconscious level and can be used to purify mental and physical blockages within in the body. Through continual practice of mantras (vibrational sounds) one can become energized and peaceful helping to maintain equilibrium within the self. From a scientific aspect it has been said that chanting holds several calming, therapeutic, psychological, and spiritual benefits.

An exploration of moving inwards through different pratyahara practices. Setting the mind so we can truly hear that is taking place and how to move through the difficulties or pain if they arise. Learning to sit with the discomfort through strengthening of the body, mind and sense of self.

11:00am-12:45pm Workshop: The Mind According to Yoga & Open Chat 15 minutes
We will explore several ideas from the shastras (sacred texts) to help us understand what influences our actions, ideas, responses, triggers, our decisions. Helping us to understand how we interact with the world outside through inside. The concepts shared are mainly coming from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. We will end with a small dhāranā practice, sharing ways to concentrate or hold the mind still.

About Tara Mitra
Tara has been practising yoga for 20yrs. Raised in Canada with roots 1/2 East Indian & 1/2 Canadian she uses this unique connection and gift to share pure knowledge from the East to the modern world of yoga in the West. She practised Ashtanga asana under Tim Miller, Sharath & Saraswathi Jois. (Lvl2) Pranayama w/ O.P. Tiwari, Philosophy w/ Dr. Vigneshwar Bhat & Raghu Ananthanarayanan & Vedic Chanting w/ Sujaya Issac.
Tara is a Certified Yoga Therapist (T. Krishnamacharya lineage), specialising in Trauma, Stress & Anxiety. Tara believes that to be a good teacher, one must be a good student. Therefore, she continuously expands her knowledge of the topics of yoga sutras, Upanishads, Ayurveda & Healing.
